Bizarre duplication glitch on Android
-
I recently started having duplication issues when I use the Simplenote app on my phone, which is the main device I use it on. (I have a Pixel 5 running the latest version of Android 13, and my app is all up-to-date, as well.) It seems to happen after I’ve copy-pasted text from my browser and switched between apps. I’ll copy-paste in Simplenote, maybe type a little, switch back to my browser, then switch back to Simplenote to find that things I entered (both pasted things and my own notes) have duplicated themselves. Sometimes it’s one dupe, but often, it’ll keep making copies if I switch back and forth again. Last night, I tried copy-pasting something small twice in a row to see what would happen, and it nearly exploded the document. (I have a separate issue where editing a document on my phone is very slow if I’m working in a particularly long one, and this duplication made this one much, much, MUCH longer than it had been.) I had to fix it in the Windows 10 app and then make a copy of the fixed version when the original document refused to update on my phone.
I do a lot of copy-pasting for my research! This is very frustrating! Please fix this bug! I’ve been overall very happy with Simplenote until now.

I’m having the same issue. When I delete the duplicated text, it brings it back 2x, if I delete that it comes back 4x, and so on, exponentially. It isn’t consistent where the text is appended: sometimes to the end of the line it was deleted from, sometimes to a line above that was edited around the same time.
System info, in case it helps:
* Moto G Power
* Android 11
* Android security update: June 1, 2022
* Google Play system update: June 1, 2023
* my phone’s internet connection goes through a VPN (YouGov Pulse) -
It’s gotten worse. Now I don’t need to copy-paste anything to cause it to happen. I tried typing a note at the top of an old document, and it was immediately duplicated a thousand times before I even finished. (I haven’t actually counted how many times, but A LOT.) This app is now unusable.

And now that I’m nervous about protecting my documents, the web app isn’t letting me export a backup copy! What the hell is going on????

MY GOODNESS! THE SAME THING is happening to me. The heck happened yesterday? it started yesterday for me too

I was able to export my notes today, and I’m seriously considering switching to Obsidian, despite the price for synching. It’s a hell of a lot less than the Simplenote Sustainer plan, anyway, and the program seems to work well. Just extremely disappointed.

Same problem. Neverending duplications of what i added to a text just 10 minutes ago. I am using android.

I noticed the bug on Saturday (using SimpleNote on Android Pixel phone). Now it’s happening on my Mac OS app as well. On open notes there is random duplication of text, then random deletions. I’ve had some complete data loss (not able to restore in history), which is making me a bit nervous. I hope this is resolved quickly.

I am also encountering this issue, write a word or two and after a second it automatically copy/pastes a ton of the same word. In a other paragraph it started copy/pasting a letter over and over again. I am able to revert to a prior save to undo the bug, but I don’t risk writing anything until this is resolved.
My spouse encountered this bug yesterday as well. We are both using pixel6 pro’s, and Simplenote 2.27 (157).
Perhaps this is related to the other notes server issue? This bug currently leaves things unusable.

Hi there! Thanks for reporting the issue!
The Simplenote servers are having some performance issues. This impacts sync, so characters are duplicated in the app, and the cursor jumps around. The team is still investigating and working hard to restore the service.
