Becoming unusable on Android phone, jumping to bottom of note. BUG
-
This is really annoying and sad, Simplenote was brilliant and just what I needed, but a few months ago it developed a bug where the cursor jumps to the end of the note when you pause for a couple of seconds while editing a note. It’s really annoying and makes using the app on the phone almost impossible. I’ve fed back about this a few times but it’s not been fixed. They just said this is a known problem that they would look at. And they refer me to this forum .
SimpleNote version 2.27 (157), using on Samsung galaxy S21, Android 13. Same problem with my Samsung tablet, Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, Android v13 (it was OK before the software update). It’s fine when using it on my laptop: Windows 10 and Chrome.
I know other people have had this problem too. Do we think they will fix this ever? Or is it time for me to switch to another note taking app? I’ve be grateful to hear from people, thanks.

I’ve added your comments to the existing bug report for this. I can’t offer an estimated timeframe for a fix, but if you’d like to keep track of the bug, you can find the open issue in our GitHub:

Had the same problem for the longest time. Was looking at the github post the guy above posted. Someone in it found a fix and said something about “turning off the edit text”. I’m not sure what that means, but when I disable predictive text in the samsung keyboard options, the scrolling issue no longer happens. It’s annoying to have to do that but it works for now. Weirdly enough this does not happen on my samsung note 10+ phone but does happen on my samsung s7+ tablet.
-
Ok I figured out what the other guy meant, you don’t have to disable predictive text fully, you can just disable “Suggest text corrections” for the SimpleNote app only by pressing manage apps.
-
Please be more specific about how you access the “Suggest text corrections” for the SimpleNote app. I can’t find it anywhere on my S21. Thanks!

Jumping display on data input. Android Samsung S22. Latest OS, latest Simplenote version.
I too have been having the issue of the display jumping to the end of the file, even though the cursor stays at the data inputting location. I get around this bug by selecting the keyboard settings, Samsung Keyboard, hit the gear, turn OFF Predictive text. I like predictive text for other apps though so have to keep turning it back on after using Simplenote, several times a day. No problems with the Windows app, the browser version, or an Android Samsung S22 Note. Love Simplenote so have been dealing with this for about a year.

Hi @carlelliott1 👋 Thanks for sharing the workaround solution! I added this information to the report to help with the investigation.

Another workaround:
I have the same problem in one long note. I copied it to a new note, and the problem stopped happening in the new note. Strangely, it also stopped happening in the original note.
Please be more specific about how you access the “Suggest text corrections” for the SimpleNote app. I can’t find it anywhere on my S21. Thanks!
+1.

I’ve read the comments on this page: https://github.com/Automattic/simplenote-android/issues/647 and above on this forum and see that many people have this same problem. Probably the reason that you don’t have even more people complaining about this is that people just abandon Simplenote and use another app instead. That’s a shame as it’s a a really good app but this problem is making it unusable. A fix suggested above (go to Settings and “Samsung Keyboard Settings” and turn off “Predictive Text”) solves the problem, and that’s really useful to know. But it’s still a pain to have to turn off Predictive Text in order to make Simplenote work properly. It would be great if you could fix this problem soon. Thanks
-
@toolworker1 Thanks for sharing that! It’s strange that the problem just stopped after copying the note, but obviously, that works for you!
@belwordpress I understand the pain especially if you want to use Predictive Text in another app, so it would be a bother to turn it off and on between apps. Hopefully, we’ll have a better solution. Thanks for jumping in!

Oh so this is a problem but not fixed yet? :-( I’ll have to start looking for another notes app then.
-
No, this is still not fixed. My guess is that it won’t get fixed as so many people who experience the bug will just use another app and not bother feedback, so there won’t be enough people complaining. A shame as it was a good app. I’d be prepared to donate if this was fixed.
Oddly this thread seems to appear with the label “SOLVED” on it, I wonder why, as it’s far from solved.
This is another thread talking about this same problem: https://github.com/Automattic/simplenote-android/issues/647
And here: https://forums.simplenote.com/forums/topic/end-of-text-jumps-down-automatically/
What note taking apps are other people using? What about Google Keep, has anyone tried that?

Everyone should enter a one-star review on the Google Play page, or change your review to one star.

I’ve used Simplenote for some time. Love the simplicity. But yes, this has been very annoying. I’m glad I found this so I can turn off predictive text but like another said, I like predictive text and shouldn’t need to turn it off. Really should have been fixed but it’s free so guess I’ll be on the lookout for another free note sharing app.

Saame issue here. This has been going on for a long time and should have been fixed a long time ago.
