Any way to sync between Android and MacOS would be a great feature

I’ve been using this for like 10 years but the same bug still appears.

There is no real way to make a note on Android and then access it in MacOS. It will never appear there. I can restart and kill the apps on both platforms over and over, but the MacOS app has no functionality that causes it to sync even when restarting it. It just does whatever it feels like.

On Android I can see the last date the particular note synced, so I believe it exists on the server.

I followed another thread and tried accessing app.simplenote etc. on my desktop browser. I cannot tell you if the note exists there, because the webapp has an infinite scrolling bug. When you try to scroll down, an infinite repeating list of the same notes appears like crazy and it forcibly scrolls you to the top of all the list with no way to scroll down no matter how much you fight it as it “explodes”.

Nothing new though, I have see this inability to sync, as I said, for about 10 years now. Probably at some random time in 2 to 96 hours the note will show up on my Mac. But that’s useless, I needed it immediately ;))

Have you tried the Simplenote web app in a different browser? It works fine for me.

Your MacOS problem may be related to internet access. Are the Mac and Android device on the same network? Or is the Android using a mobile network? You need to be able to reach simperium.com in order to sync.

    Thanks for the reply.

They’re on the same network, and I’ve been on this same wifi network for a month now – so I have no reason to expect anything is wrong with it. (Work and classes and browsing all no issue)

I started banging my head on the table. Then I tried creating a new note on android and a new note on mac. And once I created the new note on Mac, INSTANTLY all the stuff that wouldn’t show up (2 new notes on Android, including the one that inspired this post) showed up. So to me, there is something fundamentally wrong with the design of the Mac app because there is no way to make it sync forcibly, and it doesn’t do so when it should, but by “hacking it” – making an unneeded note on the Mac side – it may force it to very suddenly and inexplicable work and sync other pending notes.

    Data points

    • The url you mention works fine on the Mac
    • I accessed it now via Edge & Safari browsers on the Mac. It has the scrolling problem described above, it is completely unusable. It may be because I have a lot of notes.
  • @parasitius Thanks for the detailed information. While your workaround is helpful, it shouldn’t be necessary.

To help us pinpoint the cause, please give us the following details:

    • Your Mac’s OS version
    • The Android device and OS
    • The version of Simplenote on both devices.

We also need to know if the notes that aren’t syncing have any special characters or formatting.

I have 1152 notes (number of .txt files in an export) and no problem scrolling the All Notes list in either Safari or iCabMobile on iPadOS. I believe the web app is implemented with relatively basic javascript stuff, so it should work the same everywhere, including on your Mac.

Is it possible that your Mac has some sort of strong privacy protection that may prevent Simplenote from doing what it needs to do? Could you turn that off as a test, to see if it’s the culprit?
