My iPhone was sent off to be repaired by Apple Store. All of my phone content was stored to iCloud. After around 7 days, I collected my iPhone. Apple replaced a piece of hardware under warranty. When I restored my iPhone with iCloud and everything came across perfectly including the Simplenote App.
However when I double clicked the App I saw my ‘extremely important notes’ all there as normal but only briefly!! The page just as quickly disappeared and I had a completely blank app.
I have just visited the Apple Store today & the technician tried various ways to retrieve my Simplenotes with no success. He seems to think that Simplenote does not iCloud save and maybe my data is stored on a database 🤷‍♀️ Can anyone please help me?

Hi. The Simplenote app stores your notes in a private cloud server. So they should be restored from there, not from iCloud. Two things to try:

Log out from the Simplenote app, then log in again,

Try logging in to app.simplenote.com in Safari. This web app accesses the Simplenote server directly, so you should see the saved data.

    Thank you John

The Apple Store Technician tried both of those scenarios today with no success. I have turned my iPhone off & on and tried them both again with still no success. Do you have any other suggestions please? The fact that I saw the information/notes briefly gives me hope that it is stored somewhere 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for your time & consideration.

Try the Trash folder in the app sidebar. Uninstall the app and reinstall it.

I’d be afraid that the iCloud restore somehow corrupted the local Simplenote database, making it seem empty. When you first logged in, it restored the content from the Simplenote server, so you saw your notes. Then the app asserted that its newer status indicated zero data, so the cloud data was erased, poof!

I don’t know why this would have happened. I’ve transitioned to new iPads twice, dragging all my apps along, and never lost any Simplenote content. I wonder if the part Apple replaced affected the security mechanism used by Simplenote to recognize your device. It looks like the same device, but is not, so Simplenote doesn’t trust you.

Yep, we both tried the Trash Folder in the side bar … When you say ‘uninstall the app and reinstall it’, I have only been removing the app not deleting the app. Is that what you are only suggesting to do?

You have been very helpful John and I really appreciate that you are taking the time to respond and care. Thank you.

Now I desperately need a way or miracle of some sort for Simplenote to trust me and my iPhone. Do you have any other suggestions? Who monitors the Simplenote database? Is there a person in an office somewhere that can look me up for verification??

I’m from Australia btw (if that helps) 🤷‍♀️

I do mean deleting the app, actually removing it and its data from the device, then installing from the AppStore. The Simplenote app remembers something about your device, and uses it to distinguish different devices, like my iPads. Restoring the backup restored that data, which might not be consistent with your seemingly new device. Deleting and reinstalling will let it characterize itself correctly, and might help.

Since your notes didn’t appear in the web app, there’s not much hope for recovering them from there, but it might be possible. There are people who can access the inner workings; you’ll need to stand by for one of them.

    Thank you again John 🙏😇

I deleted the app and reinstalled it. No luck. As you can see, this is keeping me awake 🙈 I’m starting to think that I may have lost it all 😭

However you have given me a little bit of hope in knowing that someone may be able to assist with the inner workings🤞

I’ll definitely be waiting & watching.
    Thank you
