A lot of my notes just disappeared today which I was editing everyday.

this morning a lot of my notes which I have been updating on a daily basis for years, just disappeared. They are not in the trash and they are very very important to me and I was always using only my iPhone 13 Pro which I actually just recently update the iOS to iOS 18.5 few days ago. How can I recover those notes ? They are my life’s work and my life depends on them. Please help me ASAP 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😭😭

I had a note, very very long and I had my years of research on it and this morning it suddenly disappeared. That note had my whole life’s work. How can I recover it ? It’s not in the trash. It probably happened due to I updated my iOS to 18.5 two days ago on my iPhone 13 Pro. Please help me 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hi, @rajshienh. I’ll do my best to help you. Lost notes can usually be found either in the Trash or in the history of an existing note. We recommend checking the trash and revisions in whichever app you use the most, as well as the web app at https://app.simplenote.com.
You’ll want to sort the notes by the last modified date from the app settings before you start checking. It’s worth restoring notes from the Trash so you can view their history. Pay particular attention to any blank notes you can see or titles you don’t recognize.
To search the history, open a note and click the clock icon at the top, then move the slider.
Also, you can use the search field to check for content that may have been in the note. We don’t recommend just searching for the title, as we’ve seen people have trouble finding notes when accidentally deleting or changing the title text.
Can you please try those out? Please let us know what you find in the web app too.

Dear staff, it’s totally my fault that my notes got disappeared. I just trusted too much safety and reliability on your app and kept adding to my notes for years and never exported or took backup, not knowing that it would cost me my life one day. I don’t have much time now. I have lost about 15 of my notes out of which 7 were my life’s work. All of them were here three days ago and also it happened after I updated my iOS to 18.5 and updated this Simplenote app.
I restored all my notes from trash, I tried searching by the words from my missing notes, I am getting nothing. This same thing is happening on web Simplenote app too.
if I don’t get my those important missing notes, I won’t be alive for long. Please give this message to the developer to do everything to get my notes back to save my life because I don’t wanna die. One of those notes had 100’s of my dreams that I wanna live for to fulfill them.
Also I don’t understand why some of my notes got pinned up by themselves? Those were my temporary notes, not much important and now they are showing up on top as pinned.
Pleas fix this as soon as possible because I don’t have much time. Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😭😭 -
Did you check if you might be logging into a different account?
It’s possible that you accidentally created a duplicate account previously. After updating your phone, you might have logged into the wrong account. This could explain why you’re not only missing your note but also seeing unexpected pinned notes. To verify if you have any duplicate accounts, it would be easier for you to log in from the web app: https://app.simplenote.com/
If this doesn’t solve the issue, could you provide us with more details? Did you update or edit your notes in the Simplenote app while your iOS was updating? Or, did you update your note as usual, close it, then proceed to update your iOS? Afterward, were you asked to log into your Simplenote app again, only to find your notes missing and other unfamiliar changes?

Hi Fred, I did not create any other duplicate account. I never logged out of my this account ever because I was using this app everyday.
after updating my iPhone to iOS18.5, I just kept using all my apps normally as I was doing on a daily basis.
I tried logging into web app with my same account- (email visible only to moderators and staff) using same password and I was logged in rightaway with same situation as my iPhone app. Notes are missing from web app too. My temporary notes are pinned to the top in web app too. I always only pinned my most important notes that I was updating everyday.
No, I did not edit or update my Simplenote app in the middle of updating my iOS 18.5, I did not even touch my phone. It’s not the first time I updated my iOS. I just start the iOS updating and leave my phone untouched for next hour and when iOS is updated, everything is just same, all the apps are working same except Simplenote.
when I updated my iOS, I had more things to add to my notes, so I just opened Simplenote, all of my notes were perfectly there, I updated some of them and went to bed.I updated my iOS on July 7,2025. All the notes were there. I updated Simplenote app from App Store on July 13, updated my notes and went to bed. On July 14 morning, when I needed to see a note of my car’s maintenance record, that’s when I got shocked. That note was not there anymore, along with my other notes that I updated last night. They were all gone.
I almost had a cardiac arrest due to those missing notes. I haven’t touched the Simplenote since then. I was working on a very big neat completed project and I have borrowed a lot of money and now I have nothing. I was gonna finish my project and sell it the buyer that I already agreed and signed the contract. Now it’s all gone and so is my life about to. I am in a desperate need to get my notes back as soon as possible. Thank you -
Did you update from a much earlier iOS version when you updated to 18.5?
Also, do you know if you were using an outdated Simplenote version? Because the last Simplenote for iOS update was in November 2024, so I’m a bit surprised that you waited until July 2025 to update.
These answers may help to explain why you seem to have lost your notes.
